Veritas Data Research Partners with Protege to Unlock Mortality Data for AI Training

Dec 10, 2024

New York, NY and Claymont, DE – December 10, 2024 – Protege, the platform for AI training data, has entered into a strategic partnership with Veritas Data Research, a data collection and curation firm that specializes in foundational reference data. Through this collaboration, AI developers using Protege’s platform will gain access to Veritas’s industry-leading mortality dataset, which includes detailed records on 185 million deaths, including over 90% of all deaths in the U.S. since 2010. This data can be used to train AI applications seeking to model disease progression and build better diagnostics, risk models, and outcome predictions.

“Veritas’s dataset is truly exceptional in terms of its completeness and accuracy,” said Bobby Samuels, Protege’s CEO and co-founder. “Knowing exactly when and why over 185 million people died, especially when connected to health and behavioral data sets, will allow our AI partners to better understand the risk factors that lead to poor health outcomes, and consequently will permit them to develop technologies that mitigate some of the factors that lead to mortality in the first place.”

Veritas’s Fact of Death Mortality Index is the authoritative source for knowing who has died and when, while its Cause of Death Solution is the authoritative source for knowing why someone has died. Derived from several years of clinical real-world data, the Cause of Death solution provides primary and secondary causes of death with associated confidence scores, and its transparent methodology follows the same process as a clinical chart review.

“Whether a patient lives or dies is the most fundamental health outcome we can measure,” said Jason LaBonte, CEO of Veritas Data Research. “Mortality is a core endpoint in any analysis of healthcare, including safety, efficacy, population health, or outcomes studies. By partnering with Protege, we’re excited to put our data in the hands of leading AI companies; we believe that our data will help them develop breakthrough technologies to improve patient outcomes.”
